SB50 Town Hall

If you have concerns about Senate Bill 50, which would take away local zoning and allow construction of buildings up to 75 feet tall when combined with other state laws, without adequate tenant protections or affordable housing requirements, please attend the upcoming “town hall” and speak up!

Come to the Community Town Hall on April 6th, 2019

With Sen. Scott Wiener, Assembly members David Chiu and Phil Ting

11 am - 12:30 pm

UC Hastings - Louis B. Mayer Room 198 McAllister St., 1st Floor, San Francisco

State Senator Scott Wiener's SB 50 legislation claims to help solve California's housing crisis and create more "affordable housing," yet this bill will actually do more for luxury builders than anyone else. If you follow the money, the primary backers include real estate developers and technology companies.

SB 50's usurping of local control over zoning laws will up-zone 96% of SF parcels.

Here are some reasons to oppose SB 50:

Increased Heights - It allows developers to build luxury housing throughout San Francisco - up to 75 ft. high when combined with other state laws.

More Demolitions - It targets both single-family homes and multi-family buildings for demolition.

Unfair Evictions - It unleashes a wave of evictions and displacement within our neighborhoods, enabled by the bill’s weak renter protections.

Out of Scale Density - It supports “stack and pack” projects that can legally fill an entire lot, reducing parking, views, sunlight, trees, wildlife, backyards, and places for children to play.

More Congestion, Crowded Transit, Demand for Services - with the City of San Francisco footing the bill for safety services, schools/parks, and transit.
