Help Fix San Francisco's Parks! Prop A On the Ballot February 5th- Clean and Safe Neighborhood Parks Bond

There is a great proposition for San Francisco's Neighborhood Parks on the February 5, 2008 ballot. Please help spread the word.

Prop A will:

  • rebuild playgrounds
  • fix restrooms in our parks
  • repair our recreation centers with seismic problems
  • reconstruct athletic fields
  • build waterfront parks along the eastern side of the city (portions of the BlueGreenway)
  • repair trails in our natural landscapes
  • plant and care for our much neglected park trees (100,000 trees which need it!)
  • fund community-nominated projects for park repairs

The proposal has extremely broad support, everyone from the Sierra Club, Neighborhood Parks Trust, Friends of the Urban Forest, Parks Trust, to the Athletic Leagues to political organizations - the unanimous support of the Board of Supervisors and the Mayor! The bond will do so many things so dear to the heart of San Franciscans - including renovating Mission Dolores Park! (see the below link to the handout for details).

However, we need to get 67% support on the ballot to pass, we can get there -but we HAVE to reach out and educate people about what Prop A is and how great it is. Getting the word out is the task.

Anyway you can help spread the word, emailing your friends or lists of other concerned citizens you know, telling your friends and family, reminding people to vote or donating to the campaign to pay for materials like handouts and signs.

Most important - we are looking for volunteers to join us to walk neighborhoods to tell people about the great proposal, make calls, participate in the BlueGreenway bike ride! Have a house party or otherwise spread the word!

JOIN US on the days below for an evening of calling, or a few hours on weekend - telling people about it will make the difference. Times very are flexible - if you can only come for an hour, it still helps! Also, if none of the days below work for you, there are lots more opportunities, just let me know and I will find a time for you.

January 23rd - 6-9pm Calling Voters - Talking to them about Prop A! 6-9pm (Free Pizza!) (seriously, this is easy, NO experience necessary, we will show you how.

January 31st - 6-9pm Calling Voters - Talking to them about Prop A! 6-9pm (Free Pizza!) (seriously, this is easy, NO experience necessary, we will show you how.

February 2nd - 10am -on Green Saturday! Go around the town, campaign rallies and walk around a neighborhood to tell people about Prop A!

Let me know which day(s) work for you by email or phone and I will sign you up - all you have to do is show up!

Won't it be great to see these parks get fixed up and know you helped?

Please feel free to contact Dawn Kamalanathan, volunteer on the campaign, by phone (415 283 8945) or email at dawninsf@yahoo.com.
